OUT OF REACH - PERSONAL

Individuals’ feelings of inadequacy and minuscule amounts of power to infiltrate change, is intrinsically affecting our drive for climate change.

Are we more overwhelmed than ever with feelings of vulnerability due to COVID? Most elements of our lives feel out of our hands - does this inherently give us less drive because we feel an insurmountable weight of powerlessness?

Moreover, in regards to the climate crisis, those that find their due diligence in zero-waste initiatives, ethical practices, and holding themselves accountable, are tired. Having the determination and will-power to keep up reinforcing our day to day ambitions, as well as the simple proclamation of our beliefs, now, almost feels laborious.

Through the car window, I see countless manufacturing gas-guzzling facilities. The toxins, we watch them inhabit our air, we are accustomed to them now. Are we too becoming the toxins?

When did ensuring you brought your bags with you to the grocery store become a chore? When did maintaining your compost become a burden? The sudden carelessness of leaving your sink water running? When did it start to feel esoteric again to desire the environmental change we have been so eager for? We shrug.

Since COVID, the aftermath and forefront of its realities are evermore blatantly staring us in the face - we can’t escape the physical suffocation it bestows on us. Have we turned ourselves in? Faltering at its aggressive determination and our susceptibility.

Some of us are more than ever willing to create change for our climate, a flame has risen in us, a determination to be heard once again. The spark that has been provoked through the last 11 months of longing. Others are tired, more lost than ever with simple decision-making. There’s a sense of hopelessness there, maybe a focus on the frontline of what’s happening today - astonishment and relentless decay from an outbreak that feels so out of our reach.

Our spiritual renewal or revival depends on regeneration. Our restoration and replacement depends on regeneration. Regeneration depends on our planet, its inhabitants, and our future.
